Want to Know Your Dosha
According to the science of Ayurveda, the three main Doshas that dictate our physical and mental characteristics be it our body type, the illnesses we are prone to, our moods, tendencies, etc., are the Vata Dosha, Pitta Dosha and Kapha Dosha.
VATA TYPE
Vata governs movement in the body, the activities of the nervous system, and the process of elimination. Those with a predominance of Vata dosha usually have a thin, light frame and excellent agility. Their energy comes in bursts and they are likely to experience sudden bouts of fatigue. Vatas typically have dry skin and hair and cold hands and feet. They sleep lightly and their digestion can be sensitive. When the Vata dosha becomes imbalanced, it manifests in the body as weight loss, constipation, hypertension, arthritis, weakness, restlessness, and digestive challenges. On an emotional level, those with a dominating Vata, love, energy, and excitement, they are usually quick to react emotionally to situations like expressing anger, etc. They are full of life and always take initiative.
PITTA TYPE
The Pitta dosha controls digestion, metabolism, and energy production. The primary function of Pitta is transformation. Those with a predominance of the Pitta principle have a fiery nature that manifests in both body and mind. Pittas are usually of medium size and weight. They have good digestion. They sleep soundly for short periods of time and usually have abundant energy. Pittas are prone to hair loss, balding, skin rashes, ulcers, excessive body heat, heartburn, and indigestion. On the emotional side, Pittas have a sharp intellect and good concentration.
KAPHA TYPE
Kapha governs the structure of the body. It is the principle that holds the cells together and forms the muscle, fat, bone, and sinew. The primary function of Kapha is protection. Kapha types have a strong build and excellent stamina. Usually, they also have radiant skin and thick hair. However, Kaphas are prone to weight gain and diseases like diabetes. On the emotional side, they are calm and loving. They have an inherent ability to enjoy life. They are usually loyal and very good at sticking on to long term relationships and jobs.
The following table will help you determine your Dosha. The answer should not be based on your specific situation but in general, you feel in your life.
