Why a Sulphate-Free Shampoo Suits Daily Hair Care

Clear skincare bottle on a wooden tray

If you read shampoo labels, you will often see the words “sulphate-free” and “paraben-free”. Here is what they mean, in plain language.

What are sulphates?

Sulphates are cleansing agents that create the rich foam many of us expect from a shampoo. They clean very effectively, but for some people a strong cleansing action can leave the scalp or hair feeling tight and dry.

What are parabens?

Parabens are preservatives used to keep products fresh for longer. Some people prefer to avoid them and choose formulas that use other preservation methods.

What to expect from a sulphate-free shampoo

  • Less foam, but it still cleans. Foam is not the same as cleanliness.
  • A gentler feel for everyday washing.
  • A short adjustment period, as hair gets used to a milder wash.

Tips for choosing

Read the ingredient list, not only the front of the bottle. Choose a formula that suits your scalp, and rinse well after every wash. If you have a scalp condition, speak to a doctor before changing your routine.

Our Japakusum Shampoo is made without sulphates and parabens for gentle, regular use.
