A Simple Ayurvedic Hair Wash Routine for Healthy-Looking Hair
Ayurveda treats hair care as a routine, not a rescue mission. A few simple habits, repeated regularly, are the heart of it. Here is an easy wash routine you can start this week.
Step 1: A light oil massage (optional)
Warm a small amount of your preferred oil and massage it into the scalp for five minutes. Leave it for an hour before washing. If your scalp is oily or itchy, keep this step light or skip it.
Step 2: Use lukewarm water
Very hot water can leave hair feeling dry. Lukewarm water cleans well and is kinder to your scalp.
Step 3: Shampoo the scalp, not the lengths
Take a small amount of shampoo, lather it in your hands and massage it into the scalp. The foam that runs down is enough to cleanse the lengths.
Step 4: Rinse thoroughly
Leftover product can make hair feel heavy. Take your time rinsing until the water runs clear.
Step 5: Dry gently
Pat hair with a soft cotton towel and let it air dry when you can. Avoid rubbing wet hair, as it is more delicate.
How often should you wash?
There is no one answer. People with oily scalps often prefer washing more often, while dry scalps may need less. Choose the rhythm that keeps your scalp comfortable.
